Ukranian Alphabet

The Ukrainian alphabet contains 33 different characters represented by the Cyrillic alphabet. According to Brittanica, it is a “writing system developed in the 9th–10th century CE for Slavic-speaking peoples of the Eastern Orthodox faith.” Over 50 languages use the Cyrillic alphabet!

To learn more about the Ukrainian language, this first module will teach you what sound each Ukrainian letter makes. Each Ukrainian letter on the left has a play button for you to hear the pronunciation. To the right, you’ll see an English word, with certain letters underlined to represent the sound in English.
